Range Rover Classic Torque Specifications - Complete Reference Guide

Note: Always use a calibrated torque wrench. When in doubt, consult the full workshop manual for your specific engine variant (3.5L, 3.9L, or 4.2L V8).

Range Rover Classic Quick Reference Guide: Most Looked Up Torque Specs

The numbers people actually search for on the Rover V8 Classic. Full system-by-system tables are below.

Rover V8 Head Bolt Torque: two stages with NEW bolts. Stage 1: 20 Nm to seat, then Stage 2 is a single angle pull of +180 deg (+/- 5 deg). There is no torque-to-spec final stage, so a plain torque wrench is not enough - you need an angle gauge or degree wheel. Rocker shaft bolts go to 38 Nm (28 lb-ft). Full sequence is in the Cylinder Head table below.

Range Rover Classic Wheel Nut, Lug Nut & General Torque

Important Notes

Engine Variants

The Range Rover Classic was available with several V8 variants:

  • 3.5L V8 - Early models (1970-1989)
  • 3.9L V8 - From 1989
  • 4.2L V8 - Later LSE/Vogue LSE models

Core torque values are similar across variants. Fuel injection vs carb models may have different ancillary torques.

Known Issues

  • Head gaskets: The Rover V8 is sensitive to overheating. Always torque heads properly and use correct gaskets.
  • Timing chain: Single-row chains on earlier engines - consider upgrading to double-row.
  • Self-leveling suspension: Rear self-leveling struts require specific procedures - do not substitute standard shocks without modifications.
