Important Notes
Engine Variants
The Range Rover Classic was available with several V8 variants:
- 3.5L V8 — Early models (1970-1989)
- 3.9L V8 — From 1989
- 4.2L V8 — Later LSE/Vogue LSE models
Core torque values are similar across variants. Fuel injection vs carb models may have different ancillary torques.
Known Issues
- Head gaskets: The Rover V8 is sensitive to overheating. Always torque heads properly and use correct gaskets.
- Timing chain: Single-row chains on earlier engines — consider upgrading to double-row.
- Self-leveling suspension: Rear self-leveling struts require specific procedures — do not substitute standard shocks without modifications.
